Another BBC session - tonight

Postby Maeshowe » Fri Jul 30, 2010 12:48 pm

I just spotted that Sarah is doing a session for Mark Lamarr on BBC Radio 2 tonight. Or, rather, tomorrow morning, as Mark's show is on from midnight until 3 a.m.

I hope it'll be possible to listen again on iPlayer. I also hope she plays 'No Turning Back', as that's going to be the next single in the UK, released on 30 August.

OK, I got it blogged:

This is a Rolls Royce of a radio session: five tracks with the full touring band (the Blaskovites?!), but be quick, as I think the show is available on iPlayer for one week only - and the bonus track, at least, is only for UK listeners, I'm afraid. 'Bird on a Wire' is out of this world.

On an almost completely unrelated note, did anyone see the Temper Trap with The Joy Formidable in support this month? Aren't TJF completely & utterly amazing?

Maeshowe, are you able to rip 'Sleeper Awake' into an mp3 for us non-UK-ers?

I think the answer is probably 'no' - mainly because I am a complete idiot at that kind of thing, but if I can work out how to do it I'll have a go. If it's any consolation, that's the one track out of the whole session that stays closest to the album version.

That'd be great, as I think it's my personal favourite off As Day Follows Night.

Hmm. I can't find an obvious way to rip audio files embedded on the BBC website. Maybe someone techy could find a way to do it, but the Beeb is pretty ferocious about protecting its content, so I think it might require some serious hacking! The other workaround would be get a UK-based VPN, & trick the website into thinking you're in the UK, but that you might not want to go to the trouble & expense for six minutes of music - even six minutes of Sleeper Awake! I agree, though, it is a fantastic song.

Sorry I can't be more helpful.

Oh wow yes, I LOVE The Joy Formidable!! I had no idea that they were on as support. I saw them last year when they supported The Howling Bells. I'd never heard of them, but their short set blew me away. I just loved how much energy they had and they were much better than the Howling Bells on the night. 'Austere' is probably my favourite song of last year. Love it :fab:

I saw them supporting Howling Bells last year too.

They opened with "The Greatest Light Is The Greatest Shade" which nearly knocked me off my feet - literally!

Saw them again earlier this year in the same little club Sarah is going to play in Brighton in November and I'm off to see them again in a couple of months on some NME tour thingy - apparently they love playing Brighton...!
